2011 Donor Hall of Fame – Tiffany Story

Picture
A stanza from an ancient poem reads “the songs of the spheres in their revolutions are what we sing with our lutes and our voices.” Perhaps at no other time in a person’s life is music more important for cultivating the energies and values of hope, faith, trust, and beauty, than when we are children and teenagers. However, for many children and adolescents ‐ the opportunities for listening to music, studying music, and, above all, creating music –are missing in their lives. These youth are those who live in poverty, despair, fear, neglect, abandonment, abuse; they are children who do not live in an environment of creativity but only that of destruction.

Tiffany Story

Throughout her professional career as a performer and as a teacher, Miss Tiffany Story has been a professional artist and an exquisite humanitarian in entertaining, inspiring, and  educating people of all ages and backgrounds. For numerous consecutive years, Miss Tiffany has offered hour after hour after hour of music instruction, venues for performances, motivational speeches and workshops, to children in foster care and adoptive families. She inspired professionals about the power of the musical arts when her adolescent choir performed at a national foster care conference. She touched many hearts and minds of teenagers in foster care at her workshops in both local and national conferences. Her consecutive years of Christmas concerts as fundraisers for children in foster care have given many disadvantaged children joy on Christmas mornings as they awaken in a substitute family’s home while their impoverished birth parents are homeless or in prison or simply have disappeared. Her children’s choir helped raise money at a Halloween event; money used to fund educational programs for children and teens in foster care. In 2011, Miss Tiffany stood before a family court judge in a packed courtroom as one of her students sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” demonstrating the impact of music on a child’s self‐esteem, confidence, and appreciation for parental sacrifices and devotion. To everyone present in that courtroom, it was the first time anyone could acknowledge a child singing in court on a special
day when children are given a permanent home.

During the past 37 years of operations, the Sierra Association of Foster Families has selected two community foundations to be admitted into the Foster Care Donor Hall of Fame. This Christmas 2011 we proudly and gratefully acknowledge Miss Tiffany Story as the first individual inductee into the SAFF Hall of Fame ‐ for creating beauty for, with, and about disadvantaged children and teens. Through her own artistic and humanitarian songs of the spheres ‐ from the highest heavens and the depths of her soul – she revolutionizes the lives of disadvantaged youth.
