We at SAFF are heartbroken over the death of Jericho Simon.

Born with tremendous disabilities he was adopted from foster care into a most loving family.

Cile Cogburn from Washoe County Social Services was his adoption worker.

His parents Roberta and Merrill Simon have been designated "Nevada Angels" for adopting throughout the past 30 years - 23 kids with disabilities .

We love you Jericho!

In other news...

Picture
SAFF's Executive Director has fought 15 years along with others to prevent  900 bodies - including those of impoverished orphan children and teens in the late 1800's (the cemetery included a paupers field where children were buried when their families had no money) buried in Reno's oldest historic cemetery from being dug up and moved to a mass grave so a big business development agency could build a high rise apartment complex over the graves.

Joseph wants to say thank you to the public, foster and adoptive parents, former foster youth, etc. who helped us STOP THIS TRAVESTY. We won!!!!!! The development has been canceled!!!!

(NOTE Updated Tweet from spokesperson:
 "Anjeanette Damon @AnjeanetteDamon
Developer spokesman emphasized the disinterment plans are "suspended." That's not the same as called off, as I originally tweeted." 1:09 PM - 18 Sep 2016)

We will now work to restore the cemetery. We continue to collect names and histories of those buried there including the many many impoverished children and teens. Anyone interested is  welcome to join the group's efforts through the Hillside Cemetery Volunteers FaceBook Page or by visiting the  Hillside Cemetery Preservation Foundation website.

SAFF has completed the filming and editing of 10 five minute modules on Financial Literacy:

''THINK RICHLY: LEARN TO EARN!"

Middle and high school youths as well as a few of our tutors and community partners worked very hard to help create this important project.

Module 4 is now up - take a quick minute to view the modules and answer the questions.

Youths and their friends, adult guardians, tutors, teachers are watching the second module now, and having fun answering the questions. The title of MODULE 2  is "How to Obtain Important Documents for Identification.". Adults you might want to watch it and answer the questions. You may surprise yourself with your answers.

We will post new modules every couple of weeks. The modules cover identity theft, credit card management, applying for college or vocational skills, writing scholarship essays, avoiding predatory loan shops, FAFSA and financial aid, government versus private student loans, and more.
