Announcements from SAFF

Latest News!

Greetings!

The success of the Spotlight Youth Radio Theatre project on school bullying and violence is attracting major audiences across the world! Broadcast live each Saturday morning at 8... on 1180 am, and re-broadcast on other stations throughout the week, as well as live streaming on the internet,  SAFF's Executive Director interviews middle and high school teenagers about bullying, followed by their dramatic performance excerpts from their theatrical production IN OUR OWN BACKYARD written by Chicago/Reno artist Rachel Lopez.

The first month of broadcasts are being sponsored by the Law Offices of Kurt A. Franke, American Matters Radio, Nevada Matters Media Productions, Sierra Association of Foster Families, Sierra Nevada Cancer Society, and Good Luck Macbeth Theatre.

The 12 teens participating range from ages 12-18. Says Joseph who produces the show, "I've interviewed on radio and television celebrities, politicians, religious leaders, etc. etc. and I can honestly state that these teens are the most articulate, intelligent and talented people I've had the pleasure of hosting on radio. They are stupendous, which is why the series is attracting major audience demographics."

The first broadcast focused on how the teens are witnessing bullying in their schools. The second broadcast dealt with how these teens view adults preventing and stopping bullying ( or not!). The show onSaturday May 16 will focus on how social media is increasing bullying amongst teens. There will be no broadcast May 23 due to Memorial Day weekend, but the May 30 broadcast will focus on a sensitive subject affecting three groups of teens who are most vulnerable to violence and bullying, including youth in foster care and those with disabilities.

Because of the radio series, invitations for the teens to perform their theatrical production IN OUR OWN BACKYARD are arriving with performances being scheduled throughout Reno and Carson City in June and August. If your school, organization, faith based congregation would like to schedule an 80  minute performance, contact Joseph at [email protected]. If you would like to be a sponsor for the June or July series, it's only 200 dollars and the sponsoring organization receives expressions of gratitude by the teens at  the beginning and end of each broadcast.

We must stop bullying!
