We have been so busy with our In-Home/After School Academic Tutoring Program!

Our 15 tutors - the majority being students at the UNR School of Medicine, School of Engineering, School of Business, and Dean's Scholar program, as well as our 4 educational specialists have been so busy and their reports show major progress the youth are making.

Thank you tutors, social workers, teachers, counselors, guardians, foster and birth parents/grandparents!

FINANCIAL LITERACY

Picture
SAFF has completed the filming and editing of 10 five minute modules on Financial Literacy:

''THINK RICHLY: LEARN TO EARN!'.

Middle and high school youths as well as a few of our tutors and community partners worked very hard to help create this important project.

Module 1 is now up our Financial Literacy page!

Youths and their friends, adult guardians, tutors, teachers are watching the first module and answering the questions. The title of MODULE 1  is "WHAT IS YOUR VALUE ABOUT MONEY?". Adults you might want to watch it and answer the questions. You may surprise yourself with your answers.

We will post new modules every couple of weeks. The modules cover identity theft, credit card management, applying for college or vocational skills, writing scholarship essays, avoiding predatory loan shops, FAFSA and financial aid, government versus private student loans, and more.

THANK YOU
CHARLES SCHWAB BANK and OPPORTUNITY ALLIANCE NEVADA

Picture
SAFF would like to thank Charles Schwab Bank and Opportunity Alliance Nevada for funding the full tuition for 6 of SAFF's tutors and 1 consultant and our Board Secretary/Treasurer and Social Media Coordinator. they now have earned Board Certifications as Financial Literacy Coaches.

This is so exciting, over the course of 2 months they attended classes facilitated by experts from the Central New Mexico Community College (cnm.edu).
In return for their full scholarships (nearly 1,500 dollars each), they have agreed to provide on behalf of both SAFF and Opportunity Alliance Nevada, free Financial Coaching sessions. If you are interested in free Financial Coaching, contact Joseph at[email protected].

THEATRE PRODUCTION

Picture
SAFF's Executive Director has stated many times that his favorite children's book is ahauntingly beautiful story about a grandfather and grandmother and a 12 year old girl on a road trip to find the girl's mom who seems to have abandoned her.

It's such a beautiful a story!  Well, it's now about to be a major theatre production in Reno to open at the end of May and SAFF's ED, Joseph is portraying the grandfather in the production. Yep, I'm Gramps! I love this story. It's all about family love and hope and healing.

I HOPE ALL OF OUR FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE FAMILIES WILL ATTEND... I'm having a ball at rehearsals with the cast of 16 - many kids in it !!!!
